DESY operates a test beam facility with three test beam lines (21, 22 and 24). These electron or positron beams are converted bremsstrahlung beams from carbon fibre targets in the electron-positron synchrotron DESY II with up to 1000 particles per cm² and energies from 1 to 6 GeV, an energy spread of ~5% and a divergence of ~1mrad.

More detailed information on:

Ralf Diener (FLC), Norbert Meyners (MEA1) and Marcel Stanitzki (ATLAS) are in charge of coordination of the DESY Test Beam. Beam time can be requested by the test beam coordinators via email, but please read first the test beam rules!

Be aware that the German and DESY regulation forces all participants to attend a briefing about general, special and radiation safety before you can start to work at the Test Beam (each Monday at 13.00). To document the compliance with these requirements,  all users will be invited to register via INDICO as soon as the requested beam time has been fixed. The INDICO registration is also nessesary to issue a valid access card to work in the test beam areas secured by the access control system DACHS (DESY Access Handling System).  Short after the INDICO-registration the DACHS card can be obtained at DESY, in bldg. 6/ R110 (Mon-Thu 8:00-12:00 and 13:00-16:00, Fri 8:00-12:00 and 13:00-14:00).

Travel Costs Reimbursement for DESY Test Beam users

The EU-funded project  das ist ein bild addresses infrastructures required for detector development at accelerators for particle physics experiments. In frame of the AIDA-2020 Transnational Access scheme small teams consisting of European, but non-German affiliated researchers can apply for the travel expenses support to come to DESY test beam. Find more information under "How to apply for Transnational Access"
