As a measure against a further spread of the novel corona virus, DESY has entered a reduced operating mode: The sites in Hamburg and Zeuthen will remain open for the time being. Employees will work in their home offices as far as possible, while their presence on campus is reduced to the required minimum.

Where possible, particle accelerators and other facilities have been put into a "safe mode", user operation at PETRA III and FLASH has been suspended until further notice.

The X-ray source PETRA III remains in standby mode and is only powered up for SARS-CoV-2-relevant measurements. DESY cooperates here in particular with the infection research institutes of the Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) on the Hamburg campus. DESY has set up a fast track access mode for corresponding research projects.
