EURO-LABS Transnational Access

Support Period: 01/09/2022- 31/08/2026

What is EURO-LABS Transnational Access? How does it work?

DESY operates a test beam facility with three test beam lines (21, 22 and 24) with electron or positron beam from 1-6 GeV (spread: ~5%), which are  located in Hall 2 (building 27) on the campus in Hamburg Bahrenfeld.

Within the Transnational Access program users will be offered a possibility to take advantage of this unique infrastructure and conduct their measurements there. Transnational Access ensures that travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for accepted applications at the DESY II Test Beam Facility will be reimbursed by the EURO-LABs project budget.

Who can apply?

Support via Transnational Access will be granted to user groups, where the team leader and the majority of the members are working at an institution which is outside GERMANY*.

*Access for user groups with a majority of users not working in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe associated country is limited to 20% of the total amount of units of access provided under the grant.

How to apply?

  1. Contact the facility coordinator with brief details of your project and your wished time for your measurements campaign.  This step will ensure you are eligible & the BeamTime Slot will be allocated for you.
  2. Fill out the application form TA Request including proposals describing the work that you wish to carry out at DESY II Test Beam Facility (according to the instructions in there) and submit it to Natalia Potylitsina-Kube. Proposals can be submitted any time during the current support period.

Evaluation procedure (Prior to your DESY visit)

The proposals are evaluated and recommended (it takes up to two weeks) by the User Selection Board (USP), which consists of ….

The primary criterion for selection of a proposal will be scientific merit but factors such as previous usage of the facility and availability of similar facilities in the users’ home country will also be considered.

Once your scientific proposal is evaluated and accepted the team leader will be invited for registration via the DESY REGistration Tool.

Prior to the arrival at DESY, a Letter of Invitation & Confirmation of TA form will be sent to the team leader, listing all members of the group that will participate in the granted TA.
